What we commit to you
DeafMonitor is built by and for the Deaf community. These are not aspirations. They are commitments. Measurable, accountable, and permanent.
Privacy-first, always
We use Plausible Analytics — cookieless, GDPR-compliant, and unable to track you individually. No personal data is sold or shared with advertisers. Your browsing behavior stays yours.
- No third-party tracking pixels
- No data brokers, ever
- No behavioral advertising
- Your account data is never sold
WCAG 2.1 AA accessibility
Accessibility is not a checkbox. It is how we build. Every page ships against WCAG 2.1 AA standards. We run accessibility audits before every major release and act on community-reported issues within 7 days.
- Full keyboard navigation on all interactive elements
- Screen reader tested on critical flows
- No emoji in rendered output — SVG icons with proper labels only
- 4.5:1 minimum contrast on all body text
- Skip-to-main-content link on every page
No advertising. No algorithms designed against you.
DeafMonitor is funded by community members and organization partners — not by attention merchants. The feed shows you what is happening in the community, in chronological order. No engagement bait. No promoted content injected into your timeline.
- No banner ads
- No sponsored feed injection
- Partner organizations are clearly labeled
- Content is ranked by time, not by engagement signals that benefit us
Community-led, community-accountable
Major product decisions are shared with the community before shipping. If we make a decision the community disagrees with, we explain why — in plain language, publicly. If we were wrong, we reverse it.
- Major changes announced 14 days in advance
- Community feedback built into the product roadmap
- Platform rules written in plain English
- No hidden policy changes
Deaf culture, not Deaf tragedy
We do not cover the Deaf community as a medical condition or a social problem to be solved. DeafMonitor covers Deaf culture, Deaf achievement, Deaf joy, and Deaf community — from the inside out.
- Deaf-led editorial perspective
- No inspiration porn, no tragedy framing
- Cultural context in every story
- ASL, Deaf culture, and Deaf history treated as strengths, not deficits
