Princess Lalla Asmaa, Kenya’s First Lady Visit Children With Cochlear Implants in Rabat

Agadir – Princess Lalla Asmaa and Kenya’s First Lady Rachel Ruto visited Kenyan and Moroccan children who received cochlear implants in Rabat today, as part of a Morocco-Kenya cooperation program supporting people with profound hearing loss. The visit took place at the Mohammed VI International University Hospital in Rabat, where the two officials met patients who benefited from the fourth phase of the “United, We Understand Each Other Better” program. The program is under Morocco’s national “NASMAA” campaign, which was launched last year by Princess Lalla Asmaa, providing, in its fourth phase, cochlear implants to 100 Kenyan children with profound deafness, surgeries for 70 children in Kenya, and treatment for 30 others in Morocco. Through the Lalla Asmaa Foundation, Morocco has extended its cochlear implant programs to children from several countries in Africa, the Middle East, and Latin America.  The program is part of Morocco’s broader South-South cooperation efforts and aims not only to provide medical care but also to facilitate the transfer of medical expertise and skills between partner countries. Read also: Kenya’s First Lady Rachel Ruto Arrives in Morocco for Working Visit The Lalla Asmaa Foundation also continues to implement the “NASMAA” campaign nationally, which provides free cochlear implants to Moroccan patients. The initiative has so far enabled 1,050 Moroccan patients to receive free cochlear implants, exceeding its initial target of 1,000 beneficiaries. The hospital visit is part of Kenya’s First Lady’s working visit to Morocco, which began on Monday, September 14, and seeks to strengthen Morocco-Kenya relations.  Later today, Princess Lalla Asmaa presided over a luncheon hosted by King Mohammed VI at the Royal Guest Palace in Rabat in honor of Kenya’s First Lady and the delegation accompanying her during her working visit to the country. The luncheon brought together Kenya’s Ambassador Jessica Gakinya and Delegate President of the Lalla Asmaa Foundation, Karim Essakalli, alongside other Moroccan and Kenyan officials and personalities.
