International Day of Sign Languages

International Day of Sign Languages shines a light on the importance of access, language and Deaf culture. Judy Yang, a Deaf graduate student from Gallaudet University who teaches in Reno, and Andrea Juillerat-Olvera, a UNR American Sign Language lecturer and program advisor, sat down with ARC Reno Wednesday morning. Yang shared what the day means to her and discussed why access to sign language is important in classrooms, workplaces and public spaces. The pair also talked about common misunderstandings about ASL and taught viewers a few useful signs.
