Taliban Suspend Education of Girls Over 12 at Kabul Deaf Institute

Sources say the Taliban have suspended the education of girls over the age of 12 at the Vocational Institute for the Deaf in Kabul. Sources confirmed to the Hasht-e Subh Daily on Tuesday, September 15, that the Taliban’s Technical and Vocational Education and Training Authority (TVETA) had issued a notice stating that the education of girls over the age of 12 at the institute would be suspended until further notice. According to the notice obtained by the Hasht-e Subh Daily, the decision was made based on a verbal order from the Taliban’s Technical and Vocational Education and Training Authority. The Taliban also asked families in the notice not to send their daughters over the age of 12 to the institute. The order comes as the Taliban have previously banned the education of girls above sixth grade until further notice and closed the doors of universities, institutes and educational centers to women and girls.
