CODA who grew up interpreting for her Deaf mother now brings sign language interpreting to concerts

·

Emiri Hasegawa (@signsongEmily), a CODA raised by Deaf and hard of hearing parents, interpreted for them from childhood and sometimes went to concerts without her mother, which left her feeling guilty. At a 2013 concert she realised many Deaf people enjoy live music, and she began developing concert sign language interpreting, gathering feedback from Deaf audience members so hearing and Deaf fans can laugh and cry at the same moment. She kept going after her mother died in 2018 and through the pandemic.
