Fuel is expensive right now. One reason is conflict in the Middle East, especially near Iran. The Strait of Hormuz is an important waterway where about 20% of the world’s oil passes through. If that area is blocked or unsafe, global fuel prices rise. New Zealand has a National Fuel Plan (2024) to prepare for possible fuel shortages.
