Dagestan relaunches its sign-language dispatch line for Deaf and hard of hearing residents

·

A dedicated dispatch hotline for Deaf and hard of hearing people in Russia's Republic of Dagestan is working again after a break, restarted with a grant from the head of the republic. Askhab Gosenakaev, head of the regional branch of the All-Russian Society of the Deaf, said dispatchers handled more than 50 requests in the first month. Three qualified sign language interpreters take video calls daily from 9 a.m. to 6 p.m. via any messenger and relay them to the right service; the team plans to expand and move to 24-hour operation.
