South Korea holds its first national DeafBlind convention, with tactile sign language and music
About 60 DeafBlind people from across South Korea gathered October 27-28 at the L7 Hotel in Gwangmyeong for the first National DeafBlind Convention, hosted by the Miral Welfare Foundation's Helen Keller Center, with about 60 support workers, roughly 25 of them Deaf or disabled themselves. Participants read sign language by touch (tactile signing), felt music through held hands and floor vibrations, and cheered by stamping feet instead of clapping as developmentally disabled musicians played trot songs arranged for orchestra.
